Joo Yuen Ong, Founder

Founded by mechanical engineer Ong Joo Yuen (Ong/JY), Yuen is an independent Malaysian microbrand focusing on contemporary design and innovative engineering solutions. Inspired by the creative freedom of the independent scene, Ong launched the brand as an outlet to execute ideas that always bring something new to the table. Being an avid collector himself, Ong thoughtfully designs watches for new and seasoned enthusiasts alike, guided by an independent vision and the backing of a dedicated community.

The brand’s identity draws from a synthesis of Anglosphere and Sinosphere influences, symbolised by its name and logo (渊) - the Chinese nickname given to Ong by his parents.

Ong takes a pragmatically cohesive approach to the brand, designing each part from scratch and pairing them with reliable movements, serviceable by Yuen’s global service partners.

Their debut collection features the Y-01 - a modern dress watch pairing artisanal mother-of-pearl marquetry dials with a signature modular case construction, allowing for their crisp alternating finishes and hybrid cornes de vache lugs. The full range will be on display at their booth this November.
