Since the mid-18th century, the Meylan family has passed down remarkable watchmaking expertise from generation to generation, contributing to the renown of the Vallée de Joux and its village of L’Abbaye. This passion began with Samuel Olivier Meylan and Abraham-Samuel Meylan. Both trained in the art of watchmaking in the villages of Rolle and Fleurier, in the cantons of Vaud and Neuchâtel, Switzerland, respectively. Upon returning to his native Vallée de Joux, Samuel Olivier introduced complex watchmaking in 1740 and created his first pocket watch featuring a music box mechanism.
